Communicating identity
Logos are a blast, especially when I have good input from and strong collaboration with the client. Since clients don't always know where their advertising efforts will take them, I focus on creating designs that will scale down to a business card or the barrel of a pen, yet also work on the side of a truck or on a bus placard.
In the case of my own logo, for Painted Hill Studio, I knew that I would be using the logo with artwork, in some cases placing it on top of a painting (as I do with my business cards and on my website). With that in mind, I wanted a clean, simple typeface that would never distract from the artwork.
I prefer to design in one color to start with; if the logo speaks to the client in black & white, it will sing when we add color...
